Since 2009 K&A has partnered with Virgo Investment Group, a thematic investor focused on building meaningful businesses. Virgo creates or builds asset-based platforms and executes corporate, structured equity partnerships. Including co-investment, Virgo has raised over $1.7 billion, completing 58 investments to date.

In keeping with its philosophy of using capital to transform both earnings as well as market perspectives of value, Virgo invested in Ygrene, a market innovator and the leading, multi-state provider of residential, multifamily and commercial property assessed clean energy financing (“PACE”). When the company faced significant challenges from the top, down, Virgo called on K&A to make early, high-impact talent decisions to address the deficits in its leadership team and develop a lasting succession plan.

Leveraging decades of experience and industry insights in the energy sector, we initially identified a Board candidate for an open seat to help pave the path forward. With a relationship with K&A that spanned over 20 years, the transition was seamless when the Board member was ultimately groomed to replace the former CEO.

Under the new leadership of a 30-year veteran of the financial services and high tech industries, Virgo’s portfolio company found great success with full support of the Board. The new C-suite stabilized the company, helped improve company morale, and continues to make strides towards turning around the company and creating value for its LPs. It was this hands-on approach to achieve value creation through talent acquisition that has positioned K&A as one of Virgo’s go-to partners pre- and post-deal.
